Employment
Our vision is that every person released from prison will have the tools and support needed to succeed in the community . One key component of this vision is removing barriers to employment . This great work continues with our team continuing to visit with employers who have expressed interest in working with our population . These employers are committed to looking beyond what an individual under our supervision has done ; instead , these partners see these idividuals for their productive value in society .
To put this in the perspective of the national context- In the United States , over 600,000 individuals are released from prison annually . They have difficulty securing and maintaining employment after reentry since employers are reluctant to hire people with criminal records . In addition to a criminal record , limited education , the stigma of incarceration and a lack of employment history contribute to limited employment opportunities .
However , the challenge is being properly addressed in Georgia with our team continuing to knock on doors in our communities and visiting with employers who have expressed interest in working with our population to meet the growing need of employment opportunities . For DCS , over 550 employment resources are willing to offer opportunities to individuals under supervision
