As a young girl growing up in Kentucky, Sherri Spurlock romanticized the American west. She fantasized about crossing the Great Plains by wagon train, proving herself a fearless pioneer and riding her horse, Tango, where“ the deer and the antelope play.” To her, the west was a place of endless adventure, freedom and possibility.
