Participants were then treated to a birthday breakfast at the school’ s DCIS cafe, where special memories were shared and thanks were given to the staff, parents and the local community. We honoured all our long-standing staff members with flowers and awards, as some of our colleagues have been here for 20 years or more. Everyone then enjoyed a slice of the special cake and we all wore our 45 Year Anniversary birthday badges.
A time capsule was later buried at the school to mark the occasion with a number of special items tracing the school’ s history and birthday celebrations. The items included:
• Memories of our birthday celebrations from EYFS
• An essay entitled‘ Why we love Dover Court School’
• An adapted pieces from the Giving Tree called‘ The Giving School’
• A newspaper article on‘ Life at Dover Court, Now and Then’
• Memories of Sports Day 2017
• A wordle of what DCIS means to us
• Postcard and video sharing our feelings and experiences from Year 6
We wish to thank every one of our students, staff and families who helped make this two week event such a success. And we look forward to celebrating our 50th anniversary in five years!
Kind regards,
Andrew Marshall Acting Deputy Head( Lower Primary)

Hiking Expedition to Les Martinets, Switzerland:

Ready, Steady, Go!

Team of Secondary School students depart on Sunday for Les Martinets where they will stay in a mountain hut, hike the Swiss Alps and take a gondola up to a glacier at 3000 metres
With one week to go, our ambitious hikersin-training completed their final ascent of the nearby 40-floor HDB block, this time with their hiking boots and a weighted backpack. It was a fantastic achievement as it was the first time all students made it to the top. The students’ hard work and training is paying off and we commend them for the effort they are investing in training both in and outside of school. They have also been training in map reading and topography, as they now have a better understand of the geography and geology of the Swiss Alps.

The team of seven secondary students and two teachers depart on Saturday 10th June and will be arriving in Geneva for a full week of activities including: a two day hike from Les Martinets to our mountain hut, a lesson on the art of cheese and chocolate making and a tour of the factories where this fine Swiss produce is made, taking a gondola up to Glacier 3000 where we will observe a high glacial environment and gain some understanding of the environmental impacts of climate change. We will meet students from all around the globe from other NAE schools and will learn how to work together and what it takes to lead a group of people in challenging conditions. We are really looking forward to this adventure.
