I am a self taught Artist...not necessarily by choice, but by circumstance. I started out in Music as a career choice but ended up living in a Spiritual Orientated Community for 25 years, where I became involved in studying and learning the intricacies of Textile dyeing, and then design, before moving very tentatively into Fine Art, after about 10 years or more. I had a wonderful Mentor who coaxed the Art out of me gently, encouraging me to constantly improve my skills in all aspects of painting realism.
My art sold with a steady growing momentum, over the years, and has become a Solo career for the past 20 years, with pictures hanging in some of the most beautiful homes, all over South Africa now and many of which in other parts of the world.
This is a great and wonderful Privilege never to be taken lightly. For the past 10 years I have been slowly building an understanding of the role ,textures, colour, line and form, play out on my canvasses in breaking down “Photographic Imagery” of “Reality”....as we know it…towards something les Finite...but still anchored in another Reality ….a “something” not so tangible….but “Felt” as in a Dream….
This has allowed my Art to develop and grow slowly, towards the abstract, for me the most challenging aspect of all my years of doing Art .
I feel this expression now, is the bridge between the perceived reality of my Visual world, and the all layers that lie Underpinning all of Life, as expressed here : ….as we journey down , starting with the cellular , then organic compounds, molecules, atomic fields, and so on down into Life Itself. That eternal Mystery that is the Binding Creative Force that keeps all of it together...the Glue...and for me always a deep sense of Connection to it all….
It has been Fascinating, Frustrating, Intense, Joyful ,and Tearful at times. But a language is slowly emerging and expressing in my art that is closer to a Misty Vision I have of where I am headed...and continually draws me into Its potential... as an Artist and as a Person for the next Cycles of Life that are Unfolding on my Canvass
