And the Award Goes to. . .
Each year the Community
Education Advisory Council
honors individuals and groups
who have demonstrated a
commitment to lifelong learning.
This year Gladstone had one
award recipient: Phil Murphy
received the Lifelong Learner
Award for his participation in the
Gladstone Woodcarving group
over the last seven years. Fellow
carvers have benefited from his
demonstrations of techniques,
carving advice, his lending of a
tool or two, and the use of his
patterns. A Gladstone carving
session would not be complete
without a joke, a story or an
Irish tale. Over the last couple of
years, Phil’s carving, bead work
and leather work have been on
display in the lobby at Gladstone
for all to enjoy.

Wanted
Guest Grandparents
to visit
Early Childhood & School Age classrooms
Were you a nurse, farmer, pilot, or train engineer? Did you create
intricate quilts, rebuild engines, bake delicious delicacies, or
build homes with your bare hands? We are looking for you to tell
your story!
Many of our young people are not connected to their
grandparents, and miss the opportunity to hear about how life
used to be! Gladstone is compiling a Seniors as a Resource list for
our ISD 622 teachers who are looking to invite guest speakers
into their classrooms to share life experiences with their
students. No life story is too small, we want to share your life
and learning with our young people! Please stop by or call the
office, and we can add you to our growing resource list.
In the meantime we are currently looking for seniors to:
• Read to the children attending our early learning programs.
• Help with simple cooking or baking projects at Gladstone.
• Help with craft/art projects in our early learning programs.
• Any expertise and/or hobby you are passionate about
sharing.
In the elementary schools
• Help in our after school programs with activities (art/craft,
no-bake cooking projects, and storytelling).
• A group is needed to teach hand sewing to 3rd graders.
• Any expertise and/or hobby you are passionate about
sharing.
Intergenerational programs have great value for the entire
community! When we work together to view our young people,
and our seniors as vital resources our community continues
to thrive. Participants report an increase in social support and
health, improved academic performance, and an increased sense
of belonging. Join us as share stories, laugh, and engage in fun
and enriching programming for all!
Please stop by or call the office 651-748-7250 so we can add you
