Exciting and Educational Spring Ed-Ventures Gammelgården Heritage Museum Immerse yourself in the immigrant/pioneer experience of the first Swedish settlement in Minnesota, dating back to 1850. This tour will begin with a history talk in the Valkommen Hus and proceed through the five historic buildings on the grounds. After your tour, you will have a traditional Smörgåsbord lunch served at the Elim Church, featuring Swedish meatballs and gravy, parsley buttered boiled potatoes, cheese plate, herring in wine sauce, Scandinavian coleslaw, pickled beets, fresh fruit, bread basket, Wasa crackers, dessert, coffee, and lemonade. Before heading back to Stillwater, you will have time to wander the grounds and visit the Butik gift shop. After a paddling and safety overview, our excursion will take us past beautiful scenery, wildflowers, eagles, and other river life. Bring a lunch to enjoy along the way. Recommended for people with some kayaking/canoeing experience—you must be able to maneuver around downed trees, branches, and some small ripples for the last half mile. Youth ages 15 and up may attend but must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
