Lotus F1 Team were challenging for the runner-up spot in the world championship, taking on manufacturers Mercedes and Ferrari and keeping quadruple crown winners Red Bull Racing honest. They were one of only four teams to win in 2013 and finished on the podium 14 times. Sadly, with Kimi Raikkonen forced to miss the final two rounds due to back surgery and a rare engine failure on the Renault V8’s swansong, the team’s position in the standings slipped at the final hurdle. Feel for the logistics department, they’ve got about 5,000 targets to contend with; the many travel demands of freight and personnel. With an all-new car next year and lots of technical unknowns, the next 12 months are set to be hugely demanding not only for the design and manufacturing teams that will be producing scores of upgrades from beginning to end but for the people who have to deliver them against the clock. In this issue of Data Driven we © 2013 Avanade Inc. All Rights Reserved. investigate how Avanade’s SharePoint software is helping Lotus F1 Team’ logistics department to plan, track and report more efficiently than ever before. We also talk to a legend of motor racing, Sir Jackie Stewart about why data is king, and how sensors and numbers have completely changed the way cars are designed, developed and driven since his glorious era. And, for this month’s Focus In story, we look at how communications-enabled business processes are fostering great teamwork and impacting on the performance of Lotus F1 Team and many others. REMEMBER, THE RACE NEVER STOPS.
