FEATURE EXPLORE THE DARKNESS WRITTEN BY MERIEM MAHDHI If you are a nighttime-lover looking for a travel destination for when lockdown is over, bear in mind that Ibiza and its party scene is not the only option available. Travel doesn’t necessarily have to be about relaxation and time off, either – some of us prefer exploration and diving deep into new cultures. Besides, you don’t need to give up your night owl spirit during your next holiday. We’ve grouped three travel destinations, very different from each other but all at their most enjoyable during nighttime. Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam "The city boasts night markets, karaoke bars, after-hours river cruises and rooftop bars." If you step outside Ho Chi Minh City’s Tan Son Nhat Airport after 9pm, there is no way of telling what time it is. The families strolling along on the busy streets, avoiding the thousands of chairs outside of the crowded cafes and restaurants and the infinite traffic jams, will leave you confused once you realise it’s 3am. Ho Chi Minh City is a never-ending, open-air party. If you’re a backpacker in Saigon, you’ll probably find the best accommodation options in Pham Ngu Lao, also called the Backpackers’ District, or District 1. Pham Ngo Lao is the perfect place for solo travelers and couples. It’s only a two-minute walk from Bui Vien Street, the heart of Ho Chi Minh City’s nightlife, where you can enjoy 24/7 street food and cheap alcohol while dancing the night away at one of the dozens of open-air clubs. 14
