Big Fish

Big fish, little pond

‘Bright’ mind

In an ‘average’ crowd

“If you just

Worked harder,”

They would say

“So many things you

Could accomplish.”

So I did.

I worked hard,

Barely slept,

Turned everything in,

Got mostly A’s.

But suddenly,

I was very dumb.

Crazy dumb.

Suddenly

I was

A small fish

In a big pond.

With more

Bright kids.

Who slept less,

Got all A’s.

And no longer

Was it about

Working hard.

Genetic predisposition

Just didn’t make me

As smart.

Yet, these

New fish

Pushed me on.

They tell me

“It’s not that

You are dumb.”

But eventually

You will become

A product

Of that

Around you.
