I'm Fine

“I’m fine” you used to say,

When your face looked grim.

But you were gone the following day.

You would keep your tears at bay

When the light was dim

“I’m fine” you used to say.

The sky always seemed grey

While in rage and fear you would swim,

But you were gone the following day.

I believe, in your bed you would lay

Dreaming that the chances of happiness were slim.

“I’m fine” you used to say.

The tender skin you would slay.

Maybe you saw yourself standing at the rim.

But you were gone the following day.

To every god you would prey,

Cursing when everything left in a whim.

“I’m fine” you used to say,

But you were gone the following day.
