Venice and Cyprus were rocked this past weekend when news broke of the scandalous marriage between Othello and Desdemona. Now the headlines are being rocked again by Desdemona. Not even a week has passed in her marriage to the Venetian General and she may already be cheating on him! The lover in question is none other than Desdemona's childhood friend and Othello's Lieutenant, Cassio. Desdemona and Cassio were spotted together trying to move secretively into Desdemona's temporary housing here in Cyprus. We questioned many other friends in the gossip community and were led to believe that many people see Desdemona as very scandalous and unscrupulous. Many suspected a relationship between Cassio and Desdemona before she married Othello, and that it was only a matter of time before she cheated on the General. There are also those close to Desdemona and Cassio that say the relationship between them is nothing more than a very close friendship. They told of the friendship that started when the two were children and progressed as they grew older. Many are still unimpressed. We have evidence from an anonymous eavesdropper that Cassio said of Desdemona: "Indeed, she's a most fresh and delicate creature" (II.iii.). He went on to say, "An inviting eye, and yet methinks right modest...She is indeed perfection" (II.iii.). With claims like that it's hard to think that Cassio and Desdemona are strictly friends. You never know, Desdemona might be being judged too harshly and is actually a very good wife! It's up to you to decide, readers!
Othello and Desdemona's marriage has sparked a fire storm in the world of media. Even the trustworthy Iago has gotten in on the act. We interviewed Iago on what he thought about this whole situation regarding Othello and Desdemona. We weren't expecting the usually soft spoken Iago to be so bold. He told cyprUS Weekly that women are essentially the bane of society and that all they do is hurt and torment. Iago said about women: "You are pictures out of door, bells in your parlors, wild-cats in your kitchens, saints in your injuries, devils being offended, players in your housewifery, and housewives in your beds...You rise to play and go to bed to work" (II.i.). Hard to argue with Iago!
LOVERS AT LAST?!
ARE WOMEN THE DOWNFALL OF MEN?
