ALEXA CHUNG
If Kate Middleton is iconising the royal court, the TV presenter, and model / editor of British magazine‘ Vogue’, Alexa Chung, is carrying forward the street fashion. Alexa often being called a tom-boy but that does not stop her being a muse for Mark Jacob and Jason Wu, as well as earning compliments from Karl Lagerfeld and Anna Wintour who are known for being stingy with compliments. Lagerfeld branded Alexa the“ most intelligent and the most stunning modern lady” while Wintour called her“ Phenomenal”. What makes the style of this British lady so special? Firstly, she is pulling off the exceptional feat of correlating non-matching clothes: classical with pleasantly surprising, luxury with the mainstream, vintage with trending fashion.
Secondly, she knows how to reveal her legs without looking vulgar. Alexa’ s legs are truly stunning, and she loves to show them, wearing shorts, full-circle mini-skirts and close-toskin jeans. The top part, in that case, is fully covered with long sleeve shirts, swinging jersey cardigans, over-sized jumpers or jackets. The snappy dresser permanently sticks to the rule‘ something to hide— something to reveal’. Thirdly, Chung successfully popularises preppy style of prestige colleges graduates, putting on girly dresses with collars or buns, pleated skirt, stockings, flat shoes and Oxford shoes. She also wears the singlet, overalls, 60s-style dresses, flirtatious Kitten Heels shoes on the set with her favourite Chanel 2.55 handbag! and by the way, she also owns customised handbags! We must not forget that in 2010, Mulberry named their handbag collection‘ Alexa’. What an acknowledgement!
The majority of these girls live in Britain, let’ s start off with familiarising ourselves with them.
KATE MIDDLETON
The wife of Prince William appearing often before paparazzi on“ call of duty”, obliged to look sharp, to avoid dipping British monarchy in shame with her dress code. That, however, does not mean that her appearance is dull and by the book. On the contrary, her looks are both aristocratic and mainstream. At the official events, the wife of the future king( which is highly possible!) appears in plain slim-fit slightly above the knee length dresses, coats and 60s style dresses, traditional hats, gloves and beige pumps. Always smiling! There are also days when Duchess of Cambridge looks common: polo shirt, stretch waist jeans, wedge sandals. The typical trait of her style is the skill of enhancement the mundane outfit with highlights, be this lace trim, plisse, peplum, pill-box hat with a veil or discreet adornment.
Playing with tones is also within accepted norms of etiquette. Either shades of the calm palette( cream beige, purple, lilac, pale-blue, whitecoffee) or colours of power( navyblue, dark-green). Sometimes Kate picks daring red. She is young and
her husband may one day take over monarchist reigns, why wouldn’ t she?
