Automotive Aftermarket Repair Process. Polishing Compound 1 Apply small amount of 3M ™ Perfect-it ™ III Fast Cut PLUS Compound (50417) to the new panel. If using 3M ™ Perfect-it ™ Compounding Pad (50487) for the first time, work compound into pad before applying to panel. 2 Place pad onto panel and start up rotary polisher. Work a small area at a time, re-applying compound when moving to a new area. Polish 3 Apply small amount of 3M ™ Perfect-it ™ III Extra Fine PLUS Compound (80349) to the panel. 4 Attach 3M ™ Perfect-it ™ III Extra Fine PLUS Polishing Pad (50488) to rotary polisher and start up machine, move across panel until high shine is achieved. Finish 5 Shake bottle and apply 3M ™ Perfect-it ™ III ™ Ultrafina SE Polish (50383) to the vehicle, aiming to work half a square metre at a time. 6 Using 3M ™ Perfect-it ™ Ultrafina SE High Gloss Polishing Pad (50388), start with medium pressure to remove swirls/holograms, then less pressure to achieve best possible finish.
