Funding for the project has been provided by Octopus Real Estate through its Greener Homes Alliance with Homes England, which supports the delivery of high-quality, energy-efficient housing across England.
For Build Fifty5, the appointment reflects the company’ s collaborative approach to construction management. Working closely with Pedrano UK and the wider design team, the contractor has coordinated delivery of a project that combines new-build construction with the refurbishment of existing commercial buildings fronting Great Hampton Street. This integrated approach allows elements of the historic streetscape to be retained while introducing substantial new residential accommodation behind.
The Lampworks also forms part of a much broader vision for the Jewellery Quarter. It sits within Cordia UK’ s Great Hampton Street masterplan, which includes a series of residential, commercial and heritage regeneration projects intended to revitalise an important gateway into Birmingham city centre. Alongside new homes, the wider programme seeks to attract independent businesses, improve public spaces and encourage long-term investment in the area.
Construction has required careful coordination within a constrained urban environment, where neighbouring businesses, retained buildings and busy city centre streets all influence the sequencing of works. The phased programme has enabled progress while supporting the wider regeneration taking place along Great Hampton Street.
Once complete, The Lampworks will deliver more than new homes. By combining energy-efficient apartments, flexible communal facilities and active commercial frontages within a development that respects the site’ s industrial history, the project demonstrates how contemporary residential construction is contributing to the continuing evolution of Birmingham’ s Jewellery Quarter.
