The residential scheme comprises 116 homes, including 38 family houses arranged across eight terraces of four and five-bedroom properties. These are complemented by two four-storey apartment buildings providing a further 78 homes, creating a mixed residential community designed to appeal to a broad range of households.
Rather than being a standalone housing development, Rivington Chase forms one element of a much larger masterplan for the former locomotive works. Outline planning permission was granted in 2015 for a £ 262 million regeneration programme that will eventually deliver around 1,700 homes alongside new heritage, education, retail, leisure and healthcare facilities. Expansion of Chorley New Road School also forms part of the wider proposals, ensuring community infrastructure grows alongside the new housing.
For Caddick Construction, the project represents the company’ s second development for Bolton at Home, following the successful completion of an extra care scheme in Little Lever. The contractor also has an established presence in Horwich through the construction of a new health centre for United Healthcare Developments, further strengthening its involvement in the area’ s ongoing regeneration.
Restarting work on an incomplete development presents a different set of construction challenges from commencing a new project. Existing works require detailed assessment before construction resumes, while programmes, subcontractor packages and supply chains must all be carefully re-established to ensure the scheme progresses efficiently following the interruption.
