Construction is now well advanced. Recent project updates issued by Aberdeen City Council confirm that the timber kit, structural steel frame and roof trusses have all been erected, with internal works continuing as the building progresses towards completion.

The new pavilion has been designed to accommodate future demand as Harlaw Academy’ s pupil population increases. Aberdeen City Council has stated that the building will provide sufficient capacity to support projected school roll growth while reducing future maintenance and operational costs through a modern, energy-efficient design.

The pavilion also plays an important role within the wider reorganisation of sports facilities across Aberdeen’ s school estate. As plans progress for the replacement of Hazlehead Academy, Harlaw Road Playing Fields will become an increasingly important venue for outdoor education, making the new pavilion a key piece of supporting infrastructure.

Construction commenced the main build programme, allowing the new structure to rise on the existing footprint.

Rather than being viewed simply as a replacement building, the pavilion forms part of a broader investment in school sport within Aberdeen. By bringing teaching facilities closer to Harlaw Academy and providing modern accommodation beside the playing fields, the project is reshaping how outdoor physical education will be delivered for future generations of pupils.
