SALFORD RISE

Salford Rise is a major infrastructure and public realm project forming part of the wider Crescent Salford masterplan, creating a new elevated pedestrian and cycling connection between the University of Salford and the Crescent Innovation Zone.
onstruction of Salford Rise is underway as part of the £ 2.5 billion Crescent Salford regeneration programme being delivered through the Crescent Partnership, comprising English Cities Fund( ECF), Salford City Council and the University of Salford. The project is designed to improve connectivity across the city by removing barriers created by existing road infrastructure and establishing new pedestrian, cycling and public realm links between key development areas.
At the centre of the project is a new elevated walkway spanning Frederick Road in Salford. The structure will extend approximately 220 metres in length and 11 metres in width, creating a substantial traffic-free route connecting the University of Salford campus with the future Crescent Innovation Zone.
The elevated structure has been described within planning and development documentation as a“ green gateway” and forms one of the first major infrastructure projects to emerge from the wider Crescent masterplan. The project is intended to support active travel by prioritising pedestrian and cycle movement while improving accessibility between neighbouring communities and development zones.
Construction began in 2024 following planning approval and enabling works. Preparatory operations and groundworks commenced during the latter part of the year, with structural works on the elevated bridge progressing through 2025. Completion of the Salford Rise project is currently scheduled for summer 2026.
The project includes extensive public realm improvements alongside the bridge infrastructure.
