Lancaster School in Westcliff-on-Sea is undergoing a major expansion and refurbishment programme delivered by TJ Evers Limited, providing new specialist teaching accommodation and a multi-use hall to support growing demand for SEND education provision in Essex.
Construction work at Lancaster School in Westcliff-on- Sea is progressing through multiple phases as part of a significant redevelopment programme designed to expand teaching capacity and improve facilities for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities. The project is being delivered for Lancaster School by TJ Evers Limited, with architectural design by SK Architects.
The works form part of wider investment in SEND provision across Southend-on-Sea, where increasing demand for specialist education places has driven the need for additional accommodation and upgraded learning environments. Lancaster School, part of SEN Trust Southend, supports pupils with a range of complex educational and developmental needs.
A key element of the programme has been the creation of new classroom accommodation through the refurbishment and conversion of an existing multi-use hall and kitchen space. This first phase delivered three new classrooms alongside a hygiene room, medical room and additional toilet facilities, creating enhanced specialist learning space within the existing school campus.
The newly completed classrooms are now operational and accommodate both Lancaster School pupils and satellite classes linked to St Christopher’ s School. The expanded facilities have increased the school’ s teaching capacity while providing modern environments tailored to specialist education requirements.
Alongside the classroom works, construction is continuing on a new multi-use hall extension. Structural works on the hall have progressed significantly, with the steel frame and external walls now in place as the building advances toward completion. The facility is scheduled for completion in early 2026.
The new hall has been designed to support a broad range of school activities including PE, drama, assemblies, music and community events. The additional space is intended to improve operational flexibility within the school while reducing pressure on existing facilities.
