BAM is preparing to deliver a £ 42 million redevelopment of Wrotham School in Kent as part of the Government’ s School Rebuilding Programme, replacing outdated buildings with a new low-carbon education campus.
Wrotham School in Kent is set for a major transformation under the second wave of the Government’ s School Rebuilding Programme, with BAM appointed to deliver the £ 42 million redevelopment. The project will replace ageing school accommodation with a modern education campus designed around sustainability, energy efficiency and contemporary teaching requirements.
The secondary school, located near Sevenoaks, was selected as part of the Department for Education’ s national rebuilding initiative aimed at renewing school estates across England. BAM secured the contract during 2024 through the Department for Education’ s construction framework and is now progressing plans for the redevelopment programme.
The scheme will involve demolition of several existing buildings and construction of new teaching accommodation, sports facilities and associated infrastructure across the campus. Project information released by BAM describes the redevelopment as a“ green transformation” focused on delivering lower operational carbon emissions and improved environmental performance.
The new buildings are being designed to meet the Department for Education’ s latest sustainability and energy standards. Planned measures include improved building fabric performance, efficient ventilation systems and low-carbon heating technologies intended to reduce long-term operational energy demand across the school estate.
