RJ MCLEOD- PRIESTGILL WIND FARM
RJ McLeod is delivering the Priestgill Wind Farm in South Lanarkshire for Muirhall Energy, a 43.6MW onshore renewable energy project expected to enter operation in early 2027.
Construction of the Priestgill Wind Farm is progressing in South Lanarkshire, where the 43.6MW renewable energy scheme is being developed by Muirhall Energy at Littlegill Farm, approximately 2.2 kilometres north east of Abington. The seventurbine project represents a major infrastructure investment in Scotland’ s onshore wind sector and forms part of wider efforts to expand renewable energy generation capacity across the UK.
The current design for Priestgill Wind Farm received consent from South Lanarkshire Council in March 2021. The project later secured a Contract for Difference through the UK Government’ s Allocation Round 6 auction process, supporting the long-term commercial viability of the development and enabling financial close in September 2025.
RJ McLeod has been appointed as principal construction contractor following a competitive tender process. The contractor is responsible for delivery of the civil engineering and infrastructure works associated with the development, including access tracks, crane hardstandings, turbine foundations and site infrastructure required to support turbine installation and commissioning.
Turbine supply and long-term maintenance are being delivered by Nordex, which is supplying seven wind turbines for the site. The wind farm has been designed to generate up to
43.6MW of renewable electricity once operational, contributing to regional and national renewable energy targets.
Grid connection infrastructure associated with the project is being led by PowerSystems UK. Construction elements of the connection route are being undertaken in partnership with Maxwell Construction and Civils Ltd, supporting integration of the wind farm into the electricity transmission network.
Construction activity on site is reported to be progressing to programme. Works have included enabling operations, groundworks, access road formation and preparation for turbine infrastructure installation. Coordination between contractors and project stakeholders has been central to maintaining programme progress across the live construction environment.
The project is expected to become operational in early 2027, at which point the completed wind farm will begin supplying renewable electricity to the national grid. Once commissioned, Priestgill Wind Farm will contribute to Scotland’ s wider decarbonisation and renewable energy ambitions through increased onshore wind generation capacity.
