Ipswich Borough Council has commissioned Gipping Construction and Pringle Richards Sharratt Architects to reimagine the historic museum’ s interior while preserving its Victorian grandeur.
The transformation of Ipswich Museum has been a labour of respect for the past and optimism for the future, as Ipswich Borough Council, Gipping Construction, and Pringle Richards Sharratt Architects work together to breathe new life into the Grade II * listed landmark on High Street.
Closed since October 2022, the museum’ s redevelopment a comprehensive internal reconfiguration and structural upgrade— is underpinning a bold commitment to accessibility, learning and cultural engagement.
In May 2024, Ipswich-based Gipping Construction Limited began the intricate base-build works that form the backbone of the project. Their scope includes creating north and south two-storey internal infill structures complete with a dramatic cantilevered staircase alongside a new basement under the entrance lobby,
