Bosvena Send School
Planning was approved in 2023, with initial site setup by Bowmer & Kirkland commencing in May 2024, and full construction targeting completion by summer 2025. The build is on track to welcome its first cohort in the autumn term, marking a significant milestone for Cornwall’ s SEND landscape.
What makes Bosvena distinctive is its therapeutic ethos. The curriculum is bespoke, trauma-informed, and rooted in reflective, compassionate teaching— prioritising relationships and emotional safety over punitive measures.
Staff will be specifically trained in therapeutic approaches, aiming to help pupils communicate through behaviour while building emotional resilience.
The opening of Bosvena marks a significant investment in Cornwall’ s SEND infrastructure and offers a model of trauma-informed, specialist education aligned with community values. By weaving therapeutic practice into daily school life, the project aims not just to educate but to transform life outcomes for young people with SEMH needs— giving them support to learn, thrive, and confidently shape their futures.
In the coming months, Bosvena will evolve from design concept to living school, embodying inclusive education’ s future and solidifying Cornwall’ s reputation for delivering specialist provision rooted in empathy, expertise, and community engagement.
The school’ s physical design complements its ethos. Purpose-built spaces— including calm zones, flexible classrooms, and outdoor areas- support tailored learning experiences. While still in final design stage, the layout will focus on visibility, supervision and maximising daylight, with shared community spaces made available for local use after hours.
Bosvena also reflects the Trust’ s commitment to inclusion across Cornwall. As part of a network that includes five established special schools and four ARBs, Bosvena will fill a critical gap by providing advanced SEMH support and facilitating paths back into mainstream education when appropriate. Its specialist provision ensures equitable access to high-quality education across the region.
Regular consultations, newsletters, and stakeholder forums have informed the project’ s direction, ensuring local perspectives shape both provision and facilities. Trust leaders emphasise co-creation, with parents and community members seen as partners in the school’ s success.
