93 commence in June 2023 and the final phase of the Noth Wing will follow with completion expected in December 2024 .
The restoration will consist of re-roofing of each of the three wings of the Hall with new Cumbrian slates and replacing gutters and rainwater systems . The high-level stonework will be repointed and sections of the west wing ( Great Hall ), where the outer leaf of the wall has become detached from the inner structure will be rebuilt . The Great Hall will also see repairs of the 1730s ’ ornate plaster ceiling which will include re-fixing the detached cornices and replacing the decayed timer support framework and then repainted .
130 windows in the hall will be repaired and repainted while the South Wing will see the provision of tensional supports from the roof trusses to address the long term deflection of the timber beams to first floor Long Gallery which is affecting the stability of ceilings in the red and green regency rooms . I n the North Wing the timber will be treated and the environmental control systems in the gallery will be replaced .
The repair works have been designed and are being supervised by conservation specialists , Knox McConnell Architects The cost of the work is being part-funded by a grant from the Arts Council .
