When working with soft plastic alumidust can be dusted in the mold to create more details,
and/or it can be actually mixed in the molten plastic. A second option is to pour your soft bait,
then colorize it with alumidust and a small soft brush after you’ve removed it from the mold.
The alumidust can then be “set” by using gentle heat from a heat gun or torch, being careful to
heat it just until it gets a slight shine or wet look. Another option for setting the Alumidust is to
dip your finished creation in clear plastisol. You want to be sure the clear is plenty hot and
you’ve got a plan for hanging or dropping the newly coated lure into cool water. A little Alumidust goes a long, long way on soft plastic and you want to take caution not to pile it on too
thick! Finally, you can also mix alumidust with clear resins of any type and achieve some very
interesting and artistic results, almost abalone-like.
