APPLIED LANGUAGE II
(LANO2P)
This course will prepare students for the business, college, and workplace streams. Students will learn the basics of
speaking, reading, and writing. Students will interpret and create a variety of literary, business, and graphic texts. A
focus will be placed on helping students to apply strategies that will help them to interpret texts and communicate
effectively. Prerequisite: LAN01A OR LAN01P
SENIOR COLLEGE AND WORKPLACE STREAMS:
COLLEGE LANGUAGE I (Grade 11)
(LANO3C)
This course emphasizes the development of literacy and communication, as well as critical and creative thinking
skills necessary for personal and academic success. Students will study the content, form, and style of a variety of
texts, with a focus on non-fiction and informational texts, from a variety of countries and cultures, in a variety of
forms for practical and academic purposes. Prerequisites: LAN02A or LAN02P
WORKPLACE LANGUAGE I (Grade 11)
(LANO3W)
This course emphasizes the development of key literacy, communication, and creative skills necessary for success in
the workplace and in daily life. Students will study the form of a variety of contemporary literary and graphic texts.
The course will focus on skills development, basics of spelling and grammar, and on using language clearly and
accurately in a variety of formal and informal settings. Prerequisites: LAN 02A LIT02P or LAN02P
COLLEGE LANGUAGE II (Grade 12)
(LANO4C)
This course emphasizes the consolidation of literacy and communication, critical and creative thinking skills
necessary for personal and academic success. Students will study the content, form, and style of a variety of texts,
with a focus on non-fiction and informational texts, from a variety of countries and cultures, in a variety of forms for
practical and academic purposes. A focus will be placed in development of greater writing control, as well as
precision and clarity in writing. Prerequisites: LAN03C or ALCS1
WORKPLACE LANGUAGE II (Grade 12)
(LANO4W)
This course emphasizes the consolidation of key literacy, communication, and creative skills necessary for success
in the workplace and in daily life. Students will study the form of a variety of contemporary literary and graphic
texts. The course will focus on using language appropriately and organizing information coherently. Additional
employment-related learning will be available for students entering the workplace, an apprenticeship program, or a
trade learning center. Prerequisites: LAN03W.
