CURRICULUM GUIDE 2014 INTENSIVE LATIN (LANLA) This course introduces students to the study of the classical world through the study of Latin. Students will learn the vocabulary and grammar essential for reading and translating classical texts. Through the use of an immersion environment, students will become proficient in speaking, reading, and writing in Latin at the same time. A rigorous testing schedule will ensure that students are progressing at a high level. INTENSIVE FRENCH (LANFR1) Students will learn to read, write, and comprehend the French language in a variety of oral and textual forms. Using the Rosetta stone method of trial and error in an immersion environment combined with teacher-taught lessons on grammar and pronunciation, the academy takes students to a mastery level of French in a comparatively short period of time. FRENCH TRAVEL EDUCATION (LANFR2) Students enrolled in the travel education component of French will travel to France or Quebec and immerse themselves in an environment of native speakers while learning the culture and traditions of the area. Students will report back to the Academy with assignments based in the country where they are travelling. Travel education is counted as a language credit. Prerequisite: Intensive French. INTENSIVE SPANISH (LANSP1) This Students will learn to read, write, and comprehend the Spanish language in a variety of visual, textual, and contextual forms within an immersion environment. Using the Rosetta Stone method of trial and error in an immersion environment combined with teacher-taught lessons on grammar and pronunciation, the academy takes students to a mastery level of Spanish in a comparatively short period of time.
