THE LANDESFRAUENRAT — WOMEN ’ S VOICES IN HAMBURG POLITICS
The LFR is an umbrella organization of over fifty-eight member clubs and has the continuing goal to see that gender equality becomes binding in government and that equal rights for men and women are implemented fully and anchored in all areas of life . Any club or organization comprised of seventy percent or more women can apply to become a member . The AWCH has been a member since 1987 .
The Hammonia is awarded annually since 2008 by the LFR to recognize women in Hamburg who have steadfastly worked toward gender equality , whether it be professionally , voluntarily , or politically . The award is named after Hammonia , the goddess of Hamburg .
