The façade itself is only one room deep, in the top three floors. The first and second floors hold patios, and are accessed by ramps. One can tour the reverse of the façade. Since its 2006 renovation, visitors can better appreciate the arches, cornices, gables, latticework, finials, and domes over the porthole windows. Lotus and floral patterns are intricate. The façade, a mar- vel of Rajput architecture fused with Islamic Mughal lines, is lit at night, a testament to its unique charac- ter. Jaipur visits are often part of a “Golden Triangle” tour, along with Delhi and Agra. Trains from Delhi take about 4 ½ hours; an organized bus tour is preferable. Consider cool non-monsoon months (December or January). Pack rehydration packets, antibiotics, and become educated about food and water safety. There is no “safe” water in India, unless thoroughly boiled. Avoid intake of water in eyes, ears, or mouth while showering. In spite of the precautions one must take, India offers glimpses of a culture unlike any other. India is travel intensified.
