Currents April 2017 > continued from page 18 The researchers hope that their robot will ignite interest, especially among young people, in Soseki's works and also enhance robotics research. To achieve this goal, the Soseki robot will lecture in classes. Students' reactions to a “robot” lecture will be recorded, and then analyzed as part of continu- ing research projects on the interaction between humans and robots. Only time will tell whether robot professors can replace their real-life counterparts. Students may well be the ones to decide who is more stimulating - the professor or the robot. So professors -in Japan and abroad - beware! If your performance fails to meet expectations, you may risk losing your job to a robot. ❏ In And Around Palm Aire Brandeis & City of Hope By: Gig Paleias Brandeis & City of Hope are sponsoring a casino bus trip to Hard Rock in Hollywood.
