Message from Deputy Secretary General
Dear Delegates,
It is my distinct honor and privilege to welcome you to the third session of Chittagong University Model United Nations, organized by the Chittagong University Model United Nations Association, from 19 to 22, January 2017.
It was a great success owing to the delegates from different countries of the world. This year too, we plan to make it a memorable experience with a diverse platter of committees to be offered to the delegates, whether you are new to the conference or seasoned delegates.
We shall be featuring a total of 9 committees along with an International Press. Delegates participating come from an array of academic backgrounds and thus bring in diversity, new outlook and knowledge to their respective committees.
The word“ model” has a number of meanings. In the context of the model United Nations, it is commonly understood as“ a small copy”. But I prefer another of its meanings:“ a praiseworthy example to be copied”.
At a time when the world is facing significant challenges, including terrorism, global financial crisis, the increasingly harsh impacts of climate change, persistent violence and intra-state conflict, and an HIV / AIDS epidemic amongst others, I cannot stress strongly enough how important the role of youth is in preserving the health and sustainability of the planet, and in ensuring the well-being of its inhabitants. As young leaders, we have a unique opportunity to grapple with these issues together, be proactive, and craft creative solutions to help & solve the Plethora of obstacles we face.
Participating in Model UN Simulations unites us, and reflects our common interest in broadening our understanding of global problems, and finding enduring solutions to these challenges. Being able to respect differences of opinion, compromise, build consensus and negotiate, are important skills you will acquire, that will serve you well in every sphere of your life. Mastering the art of diplomacy is not easy, and empowering yourself with such an ability at this young age is admirable.
It is an honor to serve as your Deputy Secretary-General, and I wish you everything of the very best in your deliberations in the coming weeks. The secretariat board is a myriad of friendly, welcoming and dedicated members who will ensure to go to great lengths to make the participants comfortable at the four day conference.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you require any assistance. I look forward to meeting you all at the Chittagong University Model United Nations.
Sajjaul Karim Shaown Deputy Secretary General, Chittagong University Model United Nations 2017
