San Basso Paola Montesanto, Ilaria Vicedomini, Flavia Pitardi, Irene Gammieri, Sara Cianciosi San Basso is a celebration that Termoli’s citizens celebrate on August 3 rd with a mass in cathedral followed by a procession at sea with the fishing boats. The legend tells of a bishop called Basso who had a big passion for fishing. One night he decided to go fishing by boat but there was a big storm and his mitra fell in the sea. His Nitra was very precious for him and for all the population of Termoli and he threw himself down in the sea to get the Nitra but the pressure of the waves didn’t let her resurface from the water. After a few hours spent in the sea, the bishop was going to die when one fisherman found him and took him at shore, saving his life on August 3 rd . Since that day he did many good works in favour for the fishermen becoming forever their protector. He died on December 5 th . This celebration is the most important and beautiful of our town and it is celebrated for three days. 33
