In Romania there are no such holidays,
dedicated to the dead as we are. The
Orthodox Church recalls the dead
completely differently. The deceased
person personally selects each date in
which they will pray for the deceased
and to mention him (this may be, for
example, the date of the funeral
ceremony). The family and relatives
bring the morning, Saturday service to
consecrate food, wine and cutlery. Kutia
is a cooked wheat with nuts and honey.
In the middle of the temple there is a
special table, where the above
mentioned donations are made. During
the service the candles are lit, and then
everyone goes to the cemetery. There
are candles lit at the proper grave, and
devoted food is given as a family treat
and casual people in the poor.
