They spent three and a half years restoring the home to its former beauty. Since it was a designated historical property, all work was closely monitored by the Historical Society and any restorations had to be signed off on by the local inspectors. Many times that meant doing a lot of research, because even the adobe used to repair the home must come from the same region as the original adobe to meet their requirements. During construction, workers hauled away over 300 dump truck loads of debris. Everything from the floor to the ceiling was rebuilt and replaced. When they cleaned out the garden area, they discovered beautiful wrought iron gates just laying abandoned under years of detritus. They were able to restore and repurpose many other item ́
