shooter . It ’ s important to keep the original horror within the game ; now it ’ s just in more detail . You can see more mutations in the Splicers , the blood makes more of an impact and it ’ s something new and different . Same game , different imagery . You can pick out different details , especially if you ’ ve already played the game . There was clearly some love put into this restoration .
" The Splicers are scarier , the Big Daddies more intense "
The backgrounds are beautiful and vivid , adding to the experience of playing an atmospheric
ALL GOOD THINGS FLOW INTO THE CITY . ( GAMEPLAY )
It ’ s important when creating a collector ’ s version or creating a remastered version that you keep the world intact . You can ’ t take a level and make it something it ’ s not , especially not in a franchise that gained as much of a following as Bioshock . It was , to me , a staple of shooters on console and PC . It is one of few that successfully made the transition into a collection successfully .
The stories have remained the same and have remained as strong . However , the controls have changed a little to adapt to the new controllers ,
a necessary change . Personally , the new system is easier to use but I know it ’ s been a difficult transition , for the Xbox at least .
A good tip for those looking to appreciate the remastering is to start on the original version yourself . It ’ s hard to appreciate all the little differences and pick up on the cleaner details if you have nothing to compare it to .
Is it something I ’ d hold up to people who didn ’ t care for the franchise and go ‘ now play it , it ’ s better now ’? Not really . It ’ s a collection that ’ s meant for the player who wants to revisit Rapture
and Columbia . It ’ s a game meant to rekindle the joy of that world and the joy of seeing it all come together in ‘ next gen ’.
WILL THE CIRCLE BE UNBROKEN ? ( EXTRAS )
As someone who is always on the fence about add-ons , it was nice to be able to actually get hold of the DLC . Minerva ’ s Den is especially nice to see within this collection because tracking it down by itself was a nightmare originally . It ’ s good to see they ’ ve added in all the major DLC and some bonus mini-games . It adds to the fun of Bioshock and is massively increases the value for money to get all the games , the DLC , and some extra insight into what it takes to make a game .
" A worthy successor to the series "
The thing I will say is that I still haven ’ t figured out how to unlock the director ’ s commentary but the museum of abandoned works is a nice insight into the progress of the
art , the Splicers , the Big Daddies , and the Little Sisters .
NOW GET STEPPED ON BY A BIG DADDY ( ADDITIONAL THOUGHTS )
I ’ d highly recommend this collection to people who enjoyed the originals . They do justice to how a restoration should go without infringing too heavily on the joy of the game itself .
As a collection it ’ s certainly worth the money and I love being able to say that I have it in my Bioshock set now . It contains enough additional content to make it worth the price .
Play Minerva ’ s Den if you haven ’ t yet . It ’ s honestly the best DLC , despite being part of what most people see as the weakest game in the series . It ’ s Bioshock 2 ’ s major DLC , and worth every second to get more of a look into supercomputers within the universe .
It could be improved by being squeezed onto one disc , but otherwise Bioshock : The Collection is a worthy successor to the series . Now would you kindly play it ?
