THE CTE QUARTERLY | Issue 2 Faculty Spotlight Laura Earle, DVM, MPH, MSPh, CPH, DACVPM, is a professor in the Veterinary Technology program and the BAS in Applied Allied Health, Biomedical Sciences specialization. After graduating from the University of Florida’s College of Veterinary Medicine, she went into private veterinary practice (small animal medicine and surgery, chiropractic and complementary medicine) in Broward and Brevard Counties until 2005. She was involved in the development of the Veterinary Technology program as a member and Chair of the Veterinary Technology Advisory Committee before the formation of the program in 1998. During her time in clinical practice, she was an active member in the Brevard County Veterinary Medical Association and received certification in Veterinary Chiropractic through the American College of Veterinary Chiropractic in 1993. She also received several certifications in homeopathy. She accepted a full-time faculty position at BCC in August 2005. She has been the Veterinarian of Record for the Veterinary Technology program since 2005 and served as the Program Manager until 2015, when she became Community Based Health Sciences Department Chair. Dr. Earle received a Master’s in Public Health in 2011 from the University of Florida and became Board-Certified in Public Health Practice through the National Board of Public Health Examiners. She received her Diplomate (Veterinary Board Certification) from the American College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine. She received another Master’s degree in Clinical Toxicology in Spring 2018, also from the University of Florida. Page 2 Dr. Earle has been a very active member of the faculty and veterinary community. She has been an active member and officer of the UFF-Brevard and now acts as Chapter President and Grievance Chair. She was instrumental in developing the current faculty system of shared governance and is an active member of the Curriculum Development Committee and Academic Affairs Council. She has written many of the courses for the new BAS programs in Applied Allied Health and has developed other new programs including the Health Care Navigator A.S. and CCC, the Veterinary Assisting CCC, the Pharmacology Assistant A.S. and the Anesthesia Assistant A.S.. She has also rewritten multiple courses in the Veterinary Technology program. Veterinary contributions include maintaining active membership in the FVMA, BCVMA, AAV, ACVPM, AVCA, AHVMA and AVMA. She has also been an active member of many FVMA committees. She has written a Veterinary Technician National Board Examination Review book, as well as multiple chapters in Veterinary Technician textbooks. She has also worked as an item writer for the certification exams for the NBPHE, ACVPM and AVCA, and for a board review system through Elsevier/HESI. Her greatest accomplishment is her student success. The program maintains very high placement rates, and her students have been placed at many prestigious establishments throughout the country including Rood and Riddle (veterinarians for the Kentucky Derby), Peterson and Smith and multiple small animal specialty hospitals and emergency clinics (including Angell Memorial in Boston and AMC in New York City). A few of the students have even gone on to veterinary school. They keep her coming back for more and give her the drive for continuous improvement of herself and her programs.
