The State Supreme Court room has furnishings from both Germany and Italy and lots of marble. The walls are home to four murals by Albert Herter. The Senate Chamber is decorated with French and Italian marble, and has a colorful skylight. A mural of the opening of the Panama Canal by Kenyon Cox hangs on the wall. The Assembly Chamber has marble from New York and Italy, Wisconsin Oak furniture, and a thirty foot skylight. A mural by Edwin Blashfield hangs on the wall, representing Wisconsin’s past and future. I have showcased examples of all the beauty this building holds but the best way to soak in all the beauty is to go inside and gaze in amazement or take a tour. The Capital, located at 2 East Main St in Madison, WI, is open to the public from 8am to 6pm weekdays, and 8am to 4pm on the weekends and holidays. Tours run Monday to Saturday at 9, 10, and 11 o’clock, and 1, 2, and 3 o’clock. On Sunday, they have tours at 1, 2, and 3 o’clock. For more information, you can call 608-266-0382, or go on line at www.tours-wisconsin.gov. I really suggest coming to Madison and go inside the State Capital. It is a wonderfully beautiful site to see and if you come on Saturday, you can support our local farmers at the Farmers Market on the square. I hope you have enjoyed the virtual tour of the Capital through my eyes.
