In January of 2010 I visited a church and the preacher was talking about different seasons in his life in which God had specific jobs for him to do. Some of his seasons were months long and some lasted for a decade. At the end of his message the preacher challenged us to take a minute, pray and ask God if He had a specific task for us personally in 2010. He said that if God put something on your heart and you wanted to say yes to whatever God was asking you to do to answer yes to by standing up. So I prayed and I heard the words, "Write twelve songs for me this year". So I stood up and said in my heart, "Yes, God, please help me!"
Within a few days an entire song just came to me as I was driving down the road. Throughout that whole year and the next two years songs would flood into my mind and heart. In a few seconds I would have all the lyrics and the music. Sometimes as I was walking and praying a song would come to me. A couple times God gave me a song in a dream at night. When a song would come to me I would grab my cell phone and do the voice recorder so I could remember all the music and words. Then I would head to my keyboard and listen to the recording and figure out the chords. I know that these songs are straight from God!
In 2011 and 2012 I continued writing these songs down as they would come to me. I even wrote out the lead sheets so I had all the notes recorded on paper. In 2011 I met a Godly man, Pastor Gene Schmidt, who was starting a Christian songwriting organization CSMI (Christian Songwriters and Musicians International) in Nashville. He is called to help Christian artists stay strong in the Lord and not fall to worldly temptations. I joined his group and have went to three of his workshops in Nashville. When Pastor Gene felt like I was ready he introduced me to a producer in Nashville. I sent 13 of my best songs down to this producer. We listened to them together and he felt like 7 of them were ready to record. I was amazed and blessed! In February of 2013 I went down to Nashville and recorded all the vocals. I have been so humbled by sitting back and watching God work out all the details and connections. When God calls you to do something He doesn't leave you hanging! Currently I am a worship leader so I have had the opportunity to play and sing several of these God songs at different churches. I know God's anointing is on these songs. I am excited to see what God will continue to do. I hope and pray that as you listen and worship you are blessed and encouraged in your walk with Jesus.
