Anthropology

The department of anthropology explores topics ranging from the evolution of human longevity to contemporary human migrations and seeks to solve problems related to human health, natural resource conservation, and heritage preservation. The department is renowned for scientific and evolutionary approaches to the study of human and non-human primate societies. Students can gain research skills in the osteology, archeology, and molecular and ancient DNA laboratories. Faculty and students conduct research all over the globe from international field sites in Tonga, Baja Sur Mexico, and Australia, to local projects in the Great Basin right here in Salt Lake City. Field Schools, such as the Range Creek Canyon Field School, provide students training in archaeological method and theory.
