Sociology

Sociology provides an in-depth perspective of real-world social issues like diversity, health, globalization, environmental change, crime, and gender and sexuality. Faculty teach courses and perform research on topics such as social demography, internal and international migration, carbon-dioxide emissions, the experience of Latinos, social and cultural contexts of gendered family institutions, partner violence, and women’ s health. Students are provided a strong foundation in sociological theory that enables them to think analytically and communicate clearly. Sociology also provides a number of internships across the community including the Salt Lake City Mayor’ s Office, the Juvenile Peer Court Program, the Salt Lake Area Domestic Violence Coalition, the YWCA, the Road Home, the Children’ s Center, and New Roots Farmers Market.
