WEEK 2
Summer 2020
Classes meet Monday – Friday for one week
June 22, 2020 – June 26, 2020
Classes listed in alphabetical order by class title
Beginning Ceramics: Wheel Throwing (Ages 8-16)
This one-week class will introduce students to wheel throwing. Students will learn the basics of
centering, creating cylinders, and the use of tools and methods for creating pottery on the wheel. This
class will include brief lectures on the history of ceramics, examples of traditional and contemporary
ceramic work, and discussion of the importance of ceramics in culture. There will also be daily hands-
on clay throwing demonstrations.
Time: 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. (Ages 8-11)

1 p.m. – 4 p.m. (Ages 12-16)
Cost: $225
Character and World Building (Ages 12-16)
In this one-week class, students will design dynamic characters and compelling environments with
the use of Adobe Photoshop and traditional drawing. Conceptual ideas are worked through with
pre-production techniques and developed into finished concept art. This class will engage students
in ideation, design, story, silhouettes, character comps, environment comps, and character and
environment painting.
Time: 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. (Lunch break included from 12 p.m. – 1 p.m.)

Introduction to Acrylic Painting (Ages 8-16)
In this one-week class, students will learn about the materials needed for acrylic painting, basic shading
with acrylic paints, color mixing, and how to represent accurate color temperature and value. Additional
lessons will include the basics of color theory, the elements that make a successful composition, and
how color and mark making can be used to alter the mood of a painting.
Time: 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. (Ages 12-16)
