This Little Site of Mine

(I'm Gonna Let It Shine :)

Posting, commenting and Tweeting are just a few terms that are associated with sites and apps that we find ourselves constantly clicking, numerous times each day. Whether on a computer or smartphone, as Christian girls, the question is not how much we use the sites, but “How can we use the sites to bring God glory?” At the click or touch of a button, it can be a challenge to live out a life for Christ behind the screen. Here are a few considerations and tips when it comes to living out a life of faith using social media.

My name is Julia! I am the admin of a Christian Twitter account @Gods_girl316. I created the account about a year-and-a-half ago with the intent to encourage, share the Word of God, and allow the Gospel to be shown through twitter. As a teenage girl withpersonal accounts to social media sites even while running a Christian Twitter account, I too struggle with letting my light shine through the screens of these accounts. Here is some Biblical truth to back up living out a life for Christ behind the screen.

As Christians, not only do we have the responsibility, but also the privilege to let our lights shine for Christ.

"...let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in Heaven," Matthew 5:16.

Letting your light shine is so crucial in today’s dark world.

We have to ask ourselves this question: "Can people see the light of Christ off of what is being posted?" As Christ followers, every Tweet, update or post has the opportunity to show and encourage others with the hope and love that is found in Christ.

Here are a few tips to turn social media sites from self-focused profiles, to letting lights be shown for Jesus through all posts.

"It is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a person, but what comes out of the mouth; this defiles a person," Matthew 15:11.

What is Tweeted, posted or even said defines us as Christians. Let us use our words, both on the screen and out the mouth to give glory to God, not glory to ourselves. If parents would not approve, do not post it. Do your Tweets line up with the words you speak in real life? Are they the same? Be genuine! Be the same person offline as you are online!

2) love others. always.

1) hold that tongue, girl. it spits fire!

Cyber bullying is not a joke, and it is still around today. As Christians, we are called to love others, like Jesus loves us.
