The Change of Footwear with the Change in
Tennis Court Surfaces
•Clay Tennis Courts
–Herringbone pattern shoes are recommended on clay courts. They are the lighter ones
with an added ability to grasp on the dry floors and easy to move on the moist floors. To
avoid blisters and foot jamming it`s better to stick felt inside of shoes.
•Grass Tennis Courts
–There are special shoes designed for playing on the grass court, which have the rubber
nubs on the plantar and distal outsole. These are ideal for playing on the grassy surfaces
and provides good grip on the soil. Players can also use shoes with deep herringbone
pattern if they can’t access the former one. It is always recommended to do some startup
practice before playing if they are new on grass surface tennis court.
•Carpet Tennis Courts
–For tennis courts with carpeted surface hybrid shoes are recommended as they can go
well with extra soft and over dry surfaces.
