Abingdon Vale biggest percentage of income the club has, I feel that we also give something to the local community by bringing people into the town. The town centre is only a five minute walk from the club, where I hope that the shops, pubs and restaurants benefit from these rallies. We have also hosted the local army barracks for a cricket day and some local companies hire the club for corporate games. For the last couple of summers we have had a link up with Our Lady’s Secondary school where we provide our ground for training and inter school matches. I am hoping to go into one of the primary schools this winter and doing some sort of coaching within the school.” Challenges/Ambitions “The main challenge that we have is that the ground is on the Thames floodplain and floods every year. Fortunately, this has been rare to overly affect the cricket, but the ground was flooded from November 2013 to Easter 2014, so it is always a challenge to get both pitches ready for the start of the season. This also creates a bit of negativity locally as there is a belief that due to the low lying ground the pitches are not great – granted looking at the umpire’s comments in the Cherwell League Handbook, this would be disputed. There is also a concern that there isn’t enough free time for members to dedicate developing the club, due to increased work/family commitments. Over the coming years, ideally, we would be looking for all four league sides to get up a division and consistently be finishing in the top half of their divisions each season.” The Narrows OPEN FROM 8AM FRESHLY BREWED FILTER COFFEE £1.15 Traditional Breakfast Fried egg, bacon, sausage, baked beans, hash browns, tomato, slice of toast. 867 Cal “Youth cricket is very important to the club as we all realise that it is the future lifeblood of the club.” Breakfast wrap £3.39 Fried egg, bacon, sausage, hash brown, cheese Also available as a vegetarian option. 681 Cal £3.19 Eggs Royale Two poached eggs, on an English muffin with smoked salmon, Hollandaise sauce, rocket. 561 Cal £4.19 *Choose from: Coffee Filter coffee Tea Hot chocolate Small juice Bottle of Strathmore Spring Water Choose a Naked smoothie ® for £1.50 extra. 4.0% ABV PINT SHARP’S DOOM BAR £2.65 ABBOT ALE £2.35 5.0% ABV PINT GUEST ALES PINT FROM £1.99 The Narrows, 25 High Street, Abingdon-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, OX14 5AA | Tel: 01235 467680 Subject to local licensing restrictions and availability at participating free houses.
