Public Inquiry success at Potato Pot Wind Turbines, Cumbria
We are pleased to announce that the Planning
Inspectorate allowed an appeal on the 23rd
October made by Airvolution Energy for a three
turbine scheme (100m to tip) near Branthwaite,
Cumbria. Construction of the project is planned
for next year and when built Airvolution estimate
the turbines could generate electricity equivalent
to the needs of up to 3,800 homes/yr.
Neil Furber (Associate Director) gave landscape
expert witness evidence at the Public Inquiry
earlier this year where the key issues were
landscape and visual matters including
cumulative impact and residential visual
amenity. Neil was part of a team including Cliff
Lane (Head of Planning at Savills, Wimborne) and
David Hardy from Eversheds, one of the leading
UK lawyers on wind energy appeals.
In addition to preparing landscape and visual
assessments on a wide range of wind energy
schemes across England, Scotland and Wales,
ranging from single medium sized turbines to
larger wind farm schemes (up to 20MW), the
team at Crestwood also have significant
experience with feasibility studies. A number of
our clients have benefited from early landscape
input as they can be better informed on the level
of risk to a consent that landscape and visual
issues are likely to have.
Emissions Review at a Chemical Works
Roger Grainger (Senior Environmental Consultant)
has been acting on behalf of a client based in the
Black Country to review the conditions of a Water
Utility Trade Effluent Consent issued under the
Water Industry Act 1991. The client has reduced
water usage substantially by recirculation of plant
water but the concentration of heavy metals in
the process has increased; the client has been
exposed to breaches of conditions of the consent
but Roger has achieved revised metal conditions
with the water company which will allow the
company to continue to reduce water usage and
minimise trade effluent volumes to the public foul
sewer.
