SIXTH FORM STORIES CoachBright PwC trip A group of Year 13 students visited PricewaterhouseCoopers’ (PwC) head office in London Bridge for sessions in employability, problem-solving, creativity, personal brand, business networking and teamwork. Sessions were led by the country’s four most successful graduate recruitment organisations: Accenture, The Royal Navy, PwC, Goldman Sachs and Teach First, all of whom target the country’s top graduates. Crest students were exemplary throughout the day and were a real credit to the Academy. The event organiser described the group as “stand out” amongst several of the highest-performing schools in London. He particularly praised their attitude, conduct and insightful comments during the networking events. On 20th September the Academy’s coaching programme was launched for a second consecutive year. CoachBright is a social enterprise that supports students become independent and resilient learners so they can achieve their potential. The programme began with the running of a peer coaching workshop, with 40 passionate and excited members of Year 12 introduced to the varied styles of leadership, receiving guidance on how they can become a student leader at Crest. Out of 40, 20 students were selected to become student academic performance leaders. Those 20 coaches will work individually with 20 committed Year 10 students who are passionate about progressing to university. The aim of the programme is to enhance the leadership skills and mentoring ability of our Year 12 students, so they can improve their decision-making and confidence, while developing a sense of responsibility. In addition, the programme will help Year 10 students improve their grades, confidence and expectations in their coached subject. A Level Success Stories Martyna Plucinska, who spoke only basic English when she joined in Year 7, achieved 3 As in Psychology, Polish and Sociology, and a C in Art. She will be joining Goldsmiths, where she hopes to do a Master’s in Art Therapy and pursue her dream of becoming a therapist. She attributes her success to the teachers at The Crest Academy, who care about each of their students and allow them to learn in a way that suits them. “My teachers were always contactable, gave useful feedback and ran extra sessions, even in the holidays. I couldn’t have asked more from them.” Randolph Holder is looking forward to an apprenticeship with a social media company having achieved qualifications in Media and ICT. He enjoyed the courses because they taught him to learn in different ways and his teachers were helpful. He attributes his success to the facilities available to him, such as the editing suite, which he was allowed to use outside of Academy hours. Randolph advises all students to make use of all the fantastic resources available: “My teachers empowered me to learn independently.”
