England Rugby Partnership
This term has seen our exciting partnership with England Rugby kick into gear, with expert coaching already available to students in Years 7, 8 and 9. The first opportunity to be involved in competitive rugby took place with the Phil Morgan Trophy on 19 October, at the home of Kilburn Cosmos RFC. The highly successful event involved boys in Years 7 and 8, with a girls festival taking place simultaneously.
Further playing opportunities are in the process of being confirmed for all students – please contact the Academy for further details.
Tottenham Trials for Crest sharp shooters
There have been several successes for year groups representing The Crest Academy at football, including a recent 10-0 win against local rivals Alperton Community School. Five students have been selected for a trial at Tottenham Hotspur’ s Elite Development Squad at Under 13s and Under 15s level. This is a fantastic opportunity for our students, who are aiming to grab the chance to fulfil their dreams of becoming a professional footballer. Under 13s player Jaakub said:“ I am so excited and have been working hard both on and off the pitch to be ready. I enjoy working hard, but I know that my school work and behaviour has to be at the same level. My teacher Ms Pond has always believed in me and told me if I keep working hard the opportunity will come. The facilities are amazing and maybe I can be the next Dele Alli and see myself on Match of the Day.”
Staff and students at The Crest Academy wish all involved the very best of luck!
TEACHER TRAINING IN RWANDA
LRTT( www. LRTT. org) is a social enterprise that believes in the right of every child to a great education. They support this by arranging for teams of teachers to visit countries facing major educational challenges to deliver high-quality training to local teachers. The Crest Academy’ s Mr Butterfield was one of the Founding Directors and led the enterprise’ s first project in Rwanda.
The Academy supported Mr Butterfield to lead a team of 24 teachers to spend August in Rwanda training and coaching local teachers through LRTT.
Upon arrival the team worked with the Rwandan Government and trained 127 local primary and secondary school teachers through 16 sessions of Continuing Professional Development( CPD). The topics covered included differentiation, assessment and positive behaviour for learning. The visiting teachers finished their trip with chimpanzee trekking, exploring Lake Kivu and climbing and mountain biking among the volcanoes.
