Graduation Requirements
Future Ready Core and Alternative Prep Curriculum The requirements are assigned by the year a student enters the ninth grade for the first time. It is imperative that parents and students know and understand the graduation requirements associated with that class of students.
Every North Carolina high school student must do the following:
• meet the course and credit requirements( see course / credit requirements table)
• complete any required state testing
• meet any additional requirements adopted by the local board of education or individual school
Students follow one of two courses of study to meet graduation requirements. Students will be placed in the Future-Ready Core as a default option. Graduation requirements include the level of math proficiency and number of required courses. A detailed outline of graduation course requirements can be found on the following following page.
Alternative Education is the course of study a student with disabilities may complete to graduate with a high school diploma in North Carolina. The Alternative Course of Study is intended to meet the needs of a small group of students with disabilities who require a greatly modified curriculum that focuses on post-school employment and independent living.
From the time you enter kindergarten, you’ re getting ready for high school graduation. Your school guidance counselor is available to answer questions you may have about what you need to reach your goal of high school graduation.
To make sure students stay on track for a high school diploma, please remember that every high school student must meet state course and credit requirements in addition to any local requirements. To view the state course and credit requirements look at the following chart for the section that matches when a student entered ninth grade for the first time.
