Using primary and secondary source documents , as well as analysis of specific examples , students will examine and evaluate the institutions of American government , political behavior , public policies , and the development of individual rights and liberties and their impact on citizens . The content of this course is the equivalent to that of an introductory college course in U . S . government and politics .

AP Human Geography Grades 9 , 10 , 11 , 12 1 Unit Prerequisite : teacher recommendation AP Human Geography will be taught in the spring semester on a 90-minute block , helping students to think critically through the understanding , application , and analysis of geographic concepts . Units covered in the course will include population , cultural patterns and process ( culture , language , religion , and ethnicity ), political geography , agriculture , industrialization , economic development , and urban geography . An emphasis will be placed on geographic terms , concepts , and models to help students gain a better understanding of the world in which they live . Global , national , and local examples will be used to create relevance .
African American Studies Grades 11 , 12 1 Unit Prerequisite : World History , currently enrolled in American History I or II African Americans have made significant contributions to the economic , political , social , and cultural development of the United States . Through this course , students discover how African Americans have been an integral part of the American experience . However , African Americans have also been a viable force unto themselves with their own experiences , culture and aspirations . African American history cannot be understood except in the broader context of the United States ’ history .
Honors Introduction to Holocaust and Genocide Studies Grades 10 , 11 , 12 1 Unit The purpose of this course is to foster a knowledge and understanding of the Holocaust and its relevance to contemporary society through a comprehensive multimedia curriculum . Students will understand the Holocaust as a significant event in history that continues to have universal implications and will define the role and responsibility of individuals to uphold the principles of democracy . Methods of instruction include directed discussion , small group discussion and analysis , journal writing , and examination of primary source documents .
Honors Comparative Genocide Studies Grades 11 , 12 1 Unit Prerequisite : Honors Introduction to Holocaust and Genocide Studies recommended This purpose of this multi-disciplinary course is to foster a knowledge and understanding of comparative genocides of the 20th and 21st centuries . Students will focus on the bystander effect and the psychological mindset of perpetrators in an effort to understand how individual roles have contributed to the act of genocide throughout history . We will examine the nature and causes of genocide as well as the historical , political , moral , and religious responses and examine the reasons why the international community has failed to prevent or suppress the act of genocide . This course will conclude with an examination , based on our knowledge of past genocides , of how to prevent genocides in the future and make " Never Again " a reality .
