AP Calculus BC
Grade 12( spring)
1 Unit
Prerequisite: Successful completion of AP Calculus AB
This course includes a brief review of topics covered in AP Calculus AB plus the following topics: Parametric, polar, and vector functions; Euler’ s
method of solutions of differential equations; L’ Hopital’ s Rule, Polynomial Approximations and Series; and Taylor Series. Successful performance
on the College Board exam allows the student to earn credit for two levels of college Calculus.
Alternative Mathematics I
Grade 9
1 Unit
Prerequisite: department approval
Emphasis is on understanding rational numbers, applying mathematical operations, ratios, proportions, percents, time, measurement and algebraic
properties to solve problems, understanding patterns and relationships and understanding data in terms of graphical display.
Alternative Mathematics II
Grade 10
1 Unit
Prerequisite: Alternative Math I & department approval
Emphasis on using ratios and rates to solve problems, using appropriate properties and strategies to combine and factor algebraic expressions,
using direct and indirect variation to solve problems, understanding functions based on mathematical and real world phenomena, using strategies
to find solutions for linear and exponential relationships, analyzing geometric shapes, and using formulas to solve problems involving area and
volume.
Alternative Math III / Financial Management
Grade 11
1 Unit
Prerequisite: Alternative Math II & department approval
Emphasis on use of computation and the application of these skills for independent living. More emphasis is placed on application and problem
solving in the areas of financial planning, personal financial management, income taxes, wages and compensation, use of credit, types of insurance,
and consumer spending.
