Donna and Rusty Faulk at the prestigious SCI event in Las Vegas .
preparing to move on from WTVY , Rusty Faulk was in line to take his place .
Charles Woods , owner of WTVY at the time , called Rusty in for what was supposed to be an interview on a Monday morning . What Rusty didn ’ t know was that he was already the new host of Good Morning Tri-State . Instead of an interview , Rusty went live on the air right then and there !
Studio life for the Faulks was in full swing . Even the Faulk children , Austin , Erica and Maegan were living the television life . Who needed Christmas presents when there were boxes to build their own studio out of . The Faulk children would draw the knobs and speakers and all the necessary gadgets required to produce their very own shows . And of course , cameras , even using an old tripod of their dad ’ s to get the perfect shot .
Not long after , Rusty Faulk Outdoors was born and the family moved to Eufaula to build on the dream . Rusty Faulk Outdoors began to grow , eventually changing the name from Rusty Faulk Outdoors to The Pursuit Channel that would air on DirecTV . With sales expertise and product knowledge from Merrill Sport and John Wise of Hick ’ s Incorporated in Luverne . The team would grow the outdoor business and outdoor enthusiasts ’ desires by introducing the newest products and best equipment in the industry . From taking the first steps with the now super huge Bass Pro Shop to Mossy Oak and everything in between . If you were looking for someone that knew a rod and reel , a duck call , a rifle , their way to the good hunting spot or that honey hole up at lake , these were your go to fellows .
The Pursuit Channel calls Glenwood , Alabama home . Such a quaint place for the largest outdoor channel home base . The local staff is proud of their home and work hard to keep the standard high for outdoor enthusiasts . Rusty says , “ I am very proud of the can-do spirit of the small community of Glenwood . I salute how well our relatively young workforce competes and excels against other top outdoor channels from across the country .” Rusty raved on the sophistication and professionalism of his staff from around Crenshaw County .
Traveling all over the country , doing cool hunts , having amazing adventures and of course rubbing elbows with the stars and athletes such as Buffalo Bills ’ Hall of Famer Jim Kelly and everybody knows Bo Jackson , Pat Dye ( even though Rusty is a Bama fan ), Ryan Kowalski of the Atlanta Braves , Ray Scott of Bass Masters and an ever growing list of popular personalities , Rusty cherishes the times with his family the most .
“ Funny story … My son Austin was in third grade . I took him on his first real deer hunt . We had been out for only about five minutes and this big doe came down about 10 yards from us . I started filming as quickly as I could . You can hear me on the video whispering shoot , shoot , shoot the deer . I just knew the doe was gonna run . After what seemed like a long time , he finally shot and dropped the deer . I asked him , Son , were you nervous ? He answered like a television pro , “ No , I just wanted to be sure you got all the footage you needed for the show .” Rusty said as he laughed his way through the story .
Take time to enjoy the outdoors . Find a new appreciation for the art of hunting and fishing . Peace can be found on the paths less traveled . Strength can be found in the renewal of the leaves . Hunting and fishing may not be your “ thing ,” but getting outside and losing yourself in nature can be the best therapy you will find .
